Some of the UK’s leading child psychotherapists will be speaking at a major conference taking place at Great North Museum: Hancock on 27 September 2016.

The Forging New Connections – North Conference, delivered by Thrive in partnership with Tyne & Wear Archives and Museums, explores the latest research and findings in child behaviour and neuroscience and how it can be harnessed to support learning.

Clare Smith, Learning Programmes Manager at Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums and one of the conference keynote speakers said: “Supporting children and young people with a wide range of abilities and needs is key to our work at Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums.

“We recognise how important it is to understand children’s behaviour and what it can tell us about their thoughts and feelings. This conference is about exploring the latest research in neuroscience and how it can be harnessed to support learning – be that in a classroom, at home, or in a cultural venue like ours.”

The one-day conference features keynote addresses from eminent child psychologist Dr Margot Sunderland, a founding director of Thrive, Julia Bird as well as a series of creative workshops and networking sessions. Open to staff working in education, health and social care, attendees will learn new ideas for activities and practical strategies drawn from the Thrive Approach, the Thrive diagnostic tool, Thrive-Online, and Thrive’s experience of putting theory into practice in more than 1,000 schools.

Julia Bird, a founding director of Thrive said: “We are looking forward to learning more about the latest research into brain growth, and sharing how neuroscience links with creativity to support our capacity to be connected in relationships and this helps us to realise our human potential. This is what is at the heart of The Thrive Approach, so we look forward to meeting delegates who share in our passion to create a better future for children and families.”

The Thrive Approach - based on the latest findings in neuroscience, attachment research and child development - works hand in hand with Thrive-Online. The Thrive Approach helps adults understand children’s behaviour and facilitates social and emotional enrichment.
