The Late Shows 2024 are set to be bigger and better than ever - with our sponsor, Creative Central NCL launching four brand-new artist commission opportunities to be hosted by:

Blackfriars
Tracing its origins back as far as 1239, Blackfriars is an important Medieval building and cloisters tucked away in central Newcastle. Now known as the location for a successful restaurant (along with a host of other small businesses) the site has had a fascinating and rich history from the Dominican Friars (Blackfriars), its standing as a place of teaching and education, royal guests (Henry III) and the Crafts Guild.

Dance City
Dance City is the North East’s leading development organisation for dance. It exists to lead and support the development of a thriving dance ecology in the region. An eclectic programme of performances and classes takes place in the Dance City building year-round.

Grainger Market
Built in 1835 by the partnership of Richard Grainger and John Dobson, the Grainger Market is still home to over 100 small businesses selling everything from groceries, meat and fish to haberdashery, vintage clothing, plants, comics and a wide range of local and international cuisines. The Market is architecturally striking with wide busy alleyways, high ceilings and open spaces, it’s a true hub of activity, well used by the many different communities it serves.

The Common Room The Common Room is a charity, formed to lead the restoration of Neville Hall in central Newcastle, focusing on the future of innovation and engineering from its historic roots as the Mining Institute.

Artists and creatives are now invited to apply for one of four brand-new commissions, to be situated in each of the Host Venues.

The four opportunities each have a budget of £3,000 and cover a variety of art forms, disciplines and take inspiration from the Host Venues.
